SOM Student Elected to National Medical Honor Society Board of Directors

School of Medicine fourth year medical student Sean Christensen has been elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) National Medical Honor Society Board of Directors.

AΩA, founded in 1902, is a leading advocate for scholarly attainment and moral purpose in medicine. The organization’s mission is to improve patient care by recognizing high educational achievement, honoring gifted teaching, encouraging the development of leaders in academia and the community, supporting the ideals of humanism and promoting service to others.

As an SOM student, Christensen has served as class president, started a company focused on aiding patients with neurocognitive disorders and their families, and served as the chair of his region for PsychSIGN, a psychiatry interest group.

He will also chair the 2017 Black Tie/White Coat Gala, an annual event that brings SOM students, alumni, faculty and staff together to celebrate and raise funds for the Columbia Free Medical Clinic and medical student scholarships.

Christensen plans to enter a psychiatry residency program later this year.
