Marlene A Wilson, PhD to serve as the Interim Associate Dean of Basic Science and Graduate Studies

Dear SOM Faculty, Staff & Students:

It is a great honor for me to serve as the Interim Associate Dean of Basic Science and Graduate Studies even on a part-time basis, and I would like to thank Dean Hoppmann for his trust in my abilities.   I am looking forward to working with all of you to keep the Basic Science departments, SOM research programs, and graduate studies operating smoothly.   The excellent staff of the Associate Dean’s office has done a superb job maintaining operations in the office over the last few months, so I am hoping not to compromise their abilities as I assume this new role.  I also know the highly qualified PPN staff and Vice-Chairs will continue to keep the department on track as I assume these new duties.

Although I will be transitioning over the next couple weeks, I will be meeting with staff and faculty that have direct interactions with the Associate Dean’s office in the very near future. I am also planning on setting up a faculty advisory group for helping to draft “big picture” initiatives.  Finally, I have requested some resources to embark on an initiative to enhance the culture of the SOM, since I believe this will help foster collaborations across disciplines which will be essential to maintain our success in this new funding era.

I look forward to helping guide such a remarkably talented and dedicated group of faculty, staff and students at the SOM to reach our goals in research, teaching and service.  Thanks to all of you for support and encouragement.

Marlene
